How to recognise an infestation
- A steady trail following the same route along a skirting board or a joint.
- Small heaps of fine soil between terrace slabs or at the foot of walls.
- Winged ants indoors in spring — a sign of a mature colony close by.
- An unusual concentration around a water point or something sweet.
Why waiting costs more
Ants contaminate foodstuffs and, in a commercial kitchen, are enough to fail a hygiene inspection. Some species also hollow out joints and insulation, and a colony established inside a wall is far harder to treat than a trail caught early.
